I<\/span> don\u2019t remember the first time trying <\/span>fior di latte mozzarella<\/span>\u2014it\u2019s always been a delectable fixture in my family\u2019s food traditions. Fior di latte is the guest you quietly hope will already be at the family gathering by the time you get there. It\u2019s reliable but never boring; anticipated but never underwhelming.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h1>

Fior di latte mozzarella can please even the most persnickety of palates, bringing dissimilar gustatory factions to the same corner of the table. In its creamy, smooth simplicity, this cheese pairs with a panoply of more complex Italian delicacies\u2014and dynamics: perfectly crunchy <\/span>pane<\/span>, aromatic basil from the <\/span>giardino<\/span>, or <\/span>soppressata<\/span> with just the right amount of kick. It\u2019s also a go-to <\/span>merendina<\/span> while listening to a family member tell a juicy story, or getting to meet your relative\u2019s new <\/span>innamorato<\/span> for the first time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>

An arranged plate of freshly sliced, slightly salted mozzarella, for me, symbolically serves as the precipice of excitement about to unfold: waiting for all of my cousins to arrive at my grandparents\u2019 house for Christmas; chomping at the bit for one of my mom and grandmother Giovanna\u2019s meatballs right out of the hot frying pan; watching my grandfather Cosimo slice the aforementioned <\/span>soppressata<\/span> paper thin\u2014making sure I <\/span>always<\/span> had the first sliver. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>

Much of the magic and meaning of growing up Italian are inherent to these ephemeral, seemingly ineffable moments and memories. Amazingly enough, they can all be easily unlocked with just the sight of freshly sliced fior di latte mozzarella.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
