Every year, starting in September, the anticipation of our Christmas break makes me smile: the mere thought of heading to the slopes helps me put up with the long hours at school, which I find particularly exhausting in the fall when the sun starts setting earlier and earlier.<\/p>\n

I love being involved in planning our ski trips. After carefully evaluating many options, we always end up settling on some ski resort in Italy: powdery snow and beautiful trails are great, but the charming atmosphere of a quaint Italian town with Christmas markets, Italian cuisine and perfect hot chocolate are what makes the experience truly perfect.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many of the resorts in Italy are surrounded by dramatic scenery, the Dolomites in particular, located in the North East bordering Austria, include 18 majestic peaks rising above 10,000 feet, and are known for their unique color, which turns pink at sunrise and sundown. The Italian Alps also border with Switzerland and France, with \u00a0resorts ranging across the whole width.<\/p>\n

In general, the trails are maintained daily to a very high standard and the networks of ski lifts are excellent, particularly the Dolomiti Superski, which counts about 450 lifts through 750 miles of slopes.<\/p>\n

Most Italian resorts are very affordable compared to American or Swiss ski areas: from hotels to ski passes, to rentals and lessons, everything is less expensive. As a general rule, there are not too many \u201cweekend warriors\u201d and most people stick to trails that they can handle, making skiing feel a bit safer than in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Last, but not least, Alpine cuisine is simply delicious and completely different from the Italian dishes we have come to love in the States: bread or spinach dumplings seasoned with melted butter and sage, half-moon shaped ravioli filled with beets, smoked cold cuts, a variety of unique cheeses, and fabulous desserts.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Sciare in Italia\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ogni anno gi\u00e0 dall\u2019inizio di settembre comincio a sognare le vacanze di Natale: solo al pensiero delle piste da sci mi sento subito meglio, e riesco a sopportare le lunghe ore di scuola, che trovo sempre pi\u00f9 difficili in autunno quando le giornate cominciano ad accorciarsi.<\/p>\n

Mi diverto tantissimo a programmare le nostre vacanze. Ad ogni modo, anche dopo aver preso in considerazione una miriade di opzioni, finiamo sempre per scegliere una qualche localit\u00e0 sciistica in Italia: neve bianca come zucchero filato e piste panoramiche sono meravigliose di per s\u00e9, ma aggiungendo l\u2019atmosfera fiabesca di un antico villaggio alpino con i caratteristici mercatini natalizi, cucina italiana e tanta cioccolata calda densa e fumante, si arriva alla perfezione!<\/p>\n

Molti dei comprensori sciistici italiani sono caratterizzati da panorami mozzafiato: le Dolomiti in particolare, situate nel nord-est al confine con l\u2019Austria, includono 18 cime maestose che superano i 3000 metri, famose per il particolare tipo di roccia che si tinge di rosa all\u2019alba e al tramonto.
Oltre che con l\u2019Austria, le Alpi confinano anche con la Svizzera e la Francia, con comprensori sciistici lungo l\u2019intera catena montuosa.<\/p>\n

In generale in Italia le piste sono mantenute perfettamente e anche la rete di impianti di risalita \u00e8 di altissimo livello, in particolare nel comprensorio Dolomiti Superski, che conta circa 450 impianti di risalita per 1200 km di piste.<\/p>\n

la maggior parte dei comprensori italiani sono molto convenienti rispetto a quelli americani e svizzeri: dagli alloggi agli ski pass, a noleggi, lezioni e ristoranti, praticamente tutto costa meno.<\/p>\n

In generale, le piste dell\u2019Italia settentrionale sembrano anche un po\u2019 pi\u00f9 sicure di quelle americane perch\u00e9 si incontrano meno \u201cguerrieri del fine settimana\u201d (weekend warrior: chi non sa sciare ma arriva la domenica e si butta gi\u00f9 per le piste nere a spazzaneve) e gli sciatori tendono a restare su piste al loro livello.<\/p>\n

Per finire, la cucina delle Alpi \u00e8 semplicemente deliziosa e diversissima dai piatti italiani a cui siamo abituati in America: canederli di pane, spaetzle e strangolapreti di spinaci, casunziei ripieni di barbabietole, il tutto condito con burro fuso e salvia; ricchi stufati di carne, affettati affumicati come lo speck, un\u2019infinit\u00e0 variet\u00e0 di formaggi saporiti, e dolci eccezionali.<\/p>\n
