The Italian Language Foundation is pleased to announce that in May, 2026, the criteria for the Awards for Excellence will be revised to coordinate with the new format of the AP Italian Program and Exam.
The new eligibility criteria for the 2026 Awards for Excellence will be announced shortly.
The Italian Language Foundation’s College Fellowships
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES TO THE ILF COLLEGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM:

- Send the following to [email protected]:
- Name of teacher who is an ILF Teacher Member. (Professor not a Teacher Member? They can register here: Teacher Member Sign-Up)
- A letter of recommendation from your college professor of Italian
- A letter of recommendation from a leader of a volunteer organization you are affiliated with as a tutor or other volunteer
- A blog (250 words or less) describing your experience studying Italian, traveling to Italy, visiting Italian art exhibits, concerts, restaurants, specialty markets, etc. Also, send one or two photos relevant to your blog, a title, and a two-sentence bio of yourself. Submit it in Italian and English.
- Your official transcript from your most recent semester
- Proof of enrollment in an Italian language class for the semester applied for
- Alfred Catalanotto Memorial Fellowship – for students attending colleges/universities in the USA studying business as a major concentration, and are enrolled in an Italian language class(es). Fellowship is $1,000 per semester.
- Enrico Fermi – ILF College Fellowship: Student required to be enrolled in a college Italian language class and also in science and/or math classes, including pre-med, scientific research, etc. Fellowship is $1,000 per semester.
- The Claire Gaudiani Memorial Fellowship – Student required to be enrolled in a college Italian language class, together with other academic courses. A minor or major concentration in Italian is not required. Fellowship is $1,000 per semester.
- Fred Kuwornu – ILF College Fellowship: Student required to be of African-American heritage and enrolled in a college Italian language class, together with other academic courses. A minor or major concentration in Italian is not required. Fellowship is $1,000 per semester.

WHAT IS THE C2E PROGRAM?
Commitment to Excellence (C2E) Program is geared to 11th & 12th grade high school and college level students of Italian with a goal to help them become global career and workforce ready through Mentorship, Leadership and Internship exposure.
C2E Program Components
One-to-One Mentorship
Students are matched to a Mentor to support them with resume writing, college applications and to have someone to help them navigate their educational goals.
ILF Student Fellowships
In 2023, the ILF announced its Student Fellowships for eligible 12th graders and college students enrolled in Italian language classes. The ILF Fellowship can be applied toward the continued study of the Italian language in an approved college program in the United States.
Leadership Development
For 2023, ILF is sponsoring for high school level students a virtual leadership conference from July 31 - August 4, 2023. Contact the ILF if you are interested in Leadership Development
Summer Internships
Select prepared students are chosen for Summer Internships with ILF's Corporate Internship Partners, U.S based Italian companies to gain workforce skills and enhance their Italian language skills.
